Dr. Andrea Grunblatt, Psychologist

Dr. Grunblatt is an internationally trained psychologist, licensed in New York and Germany, a NAAP certified psychoanalyst, NY certified school psychologist, and a nationally certified group therapist. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Bremen, Germany, after previously having studied both at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and the University of Hamburg, Germany. In Germany, Dr. Grunblatt is board certified as a psychodynamic psychologist for adults, children, and adolescents.

In her 20+ years of private practice in the Hudson Valley, she has treated hundreds of adults, children, and adolescents. Dr. Grunblatt has worked in a residential treatment facility for adolescents and was the clinical director of an outpatient drug and alcohol clinic in Kingston. She has presented many workshops on learning disability and social interaction groups for children, preadolescents, and adolescents to parents and professionals. She has taught as an adjunct professor at Marist College, and at a psychoanalytic institute in Manhattan.

She is past president of the New York State Psychological Association Group Division, past president of the Hudson Valley Psychological Association, was a board member of the Hudson Valley Guild of Mental Health Professionals for many years; she is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, Society of Modern Psychoanalysts, the American Psychological Association, the New York Psychological Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society, the Northeastern Group Psychotherapy Society, the American Group Psychotherapy Association, and a member of the Association for Play Therapy.

Dr. Sharon McLennon-Wier, Ph.D., CRC, LMHC

Dr. Sharon Melisse McLennon-Wier is a Counseling Psychologist, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Dr. McLennon-Wier has been working in the field of mental health and rehabilitation counseling for over 20 years.

Dr. McLennon-Wier received her Ph.D. degree from Seton Hall University in Counseling Psychology in 2012. She obtained a US Law and Methodology Certificate from New York University’s School of Continuing Education in 2003, her MS degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at Hunter College, City University of New York in 1998, and her BS degree in Biology from Syracuse University in 1993.

Her theoretical orientation is cognitive behavioral therapy coupled with multicultural counseling. She works with adolescents and adults facing numerous bio-social-psychological problems including adjustment, anxiety, depression, substance abuse and alcoholism, and disability-related issues.

In addition, Dr. McLennon-Wier is an Adjunct Psychology Professor and dedicated to providing training and presentations regarding psychological topics associated with the aspect of disability. She has presented at numerous conferences through Division 22 and Division 33 of the American Psychological Association. Her research interests are in the areas of sexuality and disability. She has published several articles and book chapters regarding this subject matter.

Jennifer Plumley, LCAT

Dr. Christine Shoop, Psychologist

Dr. Christine Shoop joined Grunblatt Psychology and Counseling in 2019. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing from SUNY New Paltz in 1998 and a Master of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Counseling from SUNY New Paltz in 2001. Dr. Shoop attended Marist College and earned an Advanced Certificate of Study in School Psychology in 2003.

She worked as a behavior specialist and school psychologist for children and adults with developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, for many years before earning a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Walden University. Dr. Shoop has been licensed to practice as a clinical psychologist in New York State since 2019.

Her theoretical orientation is Humanistic and Psychodynamic psychology, though she often incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and mindfulness into her work. Dr. Shoop specializes in working with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities and conducting psychological assessments for preschoolers through adulthood. She also provides treatment for couples/families, women’s issues, depression, anxiety, and personality disorders. Additionally, she has experience running group therapy for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Arij Abdul

Arij Abdul holds an MA Degree in Psychology/Mental Health Counseling (2014). She has worked with non-profit/non-sectarian organizations and has experience in the Child Welfare System since 2014. She has over 8 years of experience working city-wide with, but not limited to, strengthening family dynamics, addressing domestic violence, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, psychological disorders, homelessness, and a vast amount of knowledge relating to child abuse, maltreatment, and neglect. She has provided clinical casework support, therapeutic, and mental health care for seriously disturbed youth, adults, couples, and traumatized families. She has been exposed to multiple populations, cultures, religions, legal/socioeconomic statuses, with a focus on the AMEMSA population (Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian), immigrants, refugees, and the underprivileged while applying trauma and culturally informed skills.

She has worked in case management and served as a Director of Program Operations for family shelters in NYC, assisting families to triumph over homelessness, locating services to aid them and their children, and supporting staff in their roles. Mrs. Abdul has over 9 years of experience in program management, supervising staff, collaborating and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders such as the Department of Homeless Services (DHS), Administration of Children’s Services (ACS), and the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). She has played a role in program implementation and strategic planning as it relates to launching family shelters, Solution-Based-Casework (SBC), and a Functional Family Therapy (FFT) program. She also served as the Deputy Director for a Functional Family Therapy Program serving NYC, was the Director of  Parent Engagement in Putnam County for a residential school, and the Behavioral Clinic Director at a Mental Health and Substance Use Urgent Care Clinic in Poughkeepsie, NY.

She utilizes the Community Resiliency Model (CRM), which focuses on bringing awareness to the biological and neurophysiological parts of trauma and stress on our bodies, as well as how to utilize biologically based wellness skills to strengthen one’s resiliency. She is currently continuing her education to obtain a PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision. She also aims to continue to work with culturally sensitive populations, delivering services to meet client/funder needs, overseeing program management, sustainability, and ensuring the fidelity to the models is being practiced. She is an extremely passionate and compassionate counselor.

She is dedicated to helping and empowering anyone during stressful times, dealing with past traumas, feeling “stuck,” or wanting to set goals. She is committed to working together to bring out the therapist and expert within to reach an appropriate state of mind, body, and spirit that is unique to the person.

Amanda Asciutto, MFT-LP

Amanda earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University and her Bachelor’s degree from Fordham University. With a background in art and literature, Amanda views therapy as a creative and collaborative journey.

She works with individuals ages 8 and up, as well as couples, families, and groups, integrating expressive modalities like sand tray, art, play, somatic, and narrative therapy. Amanda’s practice is grounded in a systemic and relational lens, with an emphasis on uncovering and reshaping the patterns that influence relationships and emotional experiences, helping clients connect more deeply with themselves and others.

I believe you are the expert of your life and see myself as someone that holds a light for you when your way seems dark. Sometimes the light makes your path clearer and other times it may reveal an obstacle that we can navigate through together. Just as no two people are the same, there is no one way to navigate through obstacles. I provide a calm and safe environment for reflection and problem solving.

I obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2017, and I also hold a Master’s in Counseling and Community Psychology with an Advanced Certificate in Forensic Psychology. My areas of practice include anxiety, depression, ADHD, neurodivergence, and life transitions with children, teens, and adults. My training brings together Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, Executive Functioning, Trauma Informed CBT, and Play Therapy; all led with a strengths-based mindset. 

Makenzi Cooley, MFT-LP

Makenzi holds a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Touro University and is currently pursuing her doctorate in the field. With a background in theatre, she brings a unique ability to foster safe, supportive spaces rooted in authenticity, storytelling, and empathy. Makenzi specializes in working with adolescents, families, and couples, addressing a wide range of concerns including trauma, abuse, infidelity, and developmental disabilities.

She is highly trained in The Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, and Yoga Therapy, providing a versatile and compassionate approach to healing and personal growth.

Roberto Veloso, LMSW, CASAC

Roberto is a Licensed Master Social Worker and a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse
Counselor. For the past decade, he has dedicated his career to supporting individuals facing
mental health and substance use disorders. His experience spans a variety of settings, including
residential treatment programs, shelters, correctional facilities, and the criminal legal system.

Lindy Pagliaroni, CMHC Student

Lindy is working on her degree as a clinical mental health counselor through Liberty University. Her Bachelor’s degree is from Empire State University. Lindy has two years of experience in the field of domestic violence crisis counseling prior to working on her clinical mental health counseling degree.

Lindy’s theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a trauma informed and person-centered lens. She works with adolescents and adults providing both in-person and teletherapy sessions.

Zaray Dratch, MFT Student

Zaray Dratch (She/Them) is an MFT student intern dedicated to supporting clients through life’s transitions, addressing issues related to substance use, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. With a passion for holistic healing, Zaray employs an integrative approach that incorporates modalities such as Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), all grounded in systemic models. 

Zaray is particularly committed to serving couples, families, and individuals who are neurodivergent, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those who identify as BIPOC, immigrant, or first-generation.

Zaray does not accept insurance at the moment and offers a sliding scale rate.

Mark Friedman, MFT Student

Mark Friedman is currently pursuing a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT).  After a successful career in the corporate world, he is now following his passion for helping those in need of mental health care.  As a father of three, with two daughters in college and a 9 year old son, he is well versed in family dynamics throughout the life cycle and brings a unique voice from a neo-paternal perspective– one with an understanding of how to apply classic family values in today’s modern world.


Mark takes an existential humanistic approach to therapy, rooted in family systems theory, which is guided by the exploration of each individual’s own personal experience.
